Story

Thursday, Feb 14, is Cyril and Methodius Day 2018, and we're asking you to help us raise as much money as possible to help spread learning opportunities across the rest of the world! This is the official fundraising & campaign page of the Exilian, a member-run society that supports independent creative & academic projects worldwide.

Sts Methodius and Cyril were two brothers, saints from the ninth century AD - famous as diplomats, writers, and missionaries, they invented the Glagolitic alphabet, the first created specifically to record Slavic languages. Their Saint's Day (in the Catholic calendar) is Feb 14 - and we're celebrating it as a welcoming, non-denominational alternative to Valentine's Day, as a festival of reading, languages, and European culture.

Cyril & Methodius Day is a day to hug the linguist in your life, to talk to your friends across Europe and beyond, to start learning that language you always meant to get round to, or just sit with a good book and have a read. But perhaps even more importantly, it's a day to help others have those opportunities. Room to Read works across the developing world with communities to create local libraries, literature for children, and bring reading to those who would otherwise be unable to access it. So this Cyril and Methodius Day, please give what you can, even if it's just a little - and let's get the world reading.

Many thanks,

James Baillie
