Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Some of you know and some don’t that in 2009 I added to the statistics of Breast Cancer. I underwent surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and many drugs. My treatment finished at the end of 2010 and I am now back at work. During my ‘journey’ I had wonderful support from my family, friends and amazing medical staff. I met some lovely people and many will remain friends for life. I was treated impeccably and once my journey was over I had time to reflect and digest the previous 18 months of my life. I decided that I would like to help raise awareness and to give something back to help with research and create awareness for this disease that affects so many people. Being married to a triathlete and mixing in circles containing many sporting enthusiasts, I agreed with a suggestion to compete in the East Grinstead ladies Try-a-Tri. The event takes place in May and consists of a 250m swim, 11k cycle ride and then a 2.5k run. My reasons were twofold; firstly, I wanted to raise money for a breast cancer charity. I chose Coppafeel (www. Coppafeel.org), a charity set up by a Kristin Hallenga who, at the age of 23, was also diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. Because of her age, her symptons were dismissed as hormonal for several months prior to diagnosis. One week after her diagnosis Kris was told she had secondary cancer as a result of a tumour on her spine. Two months later Kris set up Coppafeel with the aim of avoiding late diagnosis or misdiagnosis of breast cancer in young women. Cancer is not something that only affects older people; I met young women in their 20’s up to those in their 80’s because breast cancer knows no age.
Oh, I mentioned earlier that there are two reasons for me competing in the Try-a-Tri. The second reason is, because I can.
