Story
More than 700 000 people die due to suicide every year.
For every suicide there are many more people who attempt suicide.
Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death in 15-19 year-olds
Stigma, particularly surrounding mental disorders and suicide, means many people thinking of taking their own life or who have attempted suicide are not seeking help and are therefore not getting the help they need.
Therefore we (#CycloHolics) are going to be riding to London from Birmingham on the 9th October in 1 day. We will begin our journey down to London at 5am covering around 120 miles.
The aim is to help raise awareness around Suicide and remove the stigma attached to Men's mental health and being able to just have a conversation without being judged.
In lockdown 2020 - all of our lives turned from being outgoing and social bees to being conformed in the 4 walls of our house due to Covid. For many of us including me this was very difficult and took on bike riding as a means to "just get out the house" however after weeks and months of riding this soon became a lifestyle change as the impact of getting on the bike with a group lads talking, laughing and more importantly clearing the mind was clear.
By doing this ride to London we will hopefully encourage more people to channel their thoughts and use cycling as vehicle to to help channel those thoughts. Get on a bike with your friends and family and enjoy the outdoors.
