Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for the charity SeeSaw (www.seesaw.org.uk). Please also visit my main blog at www.cyclingformargaret.wordpress.com as I am also raising money for another charity Let's Face It (www.justigiving.com/letsfaceitformargaret)
So what's this about?
Along with two friends, Graham and Adrian, I’m cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End. We’re covering 1000 miles over 12 consecutive days starting on the 24 July 2011. I’m doing the ride in memory of my sister Margaret who died some years ago at the age of 42 after battling facial cancer. She left two children behind.
I’ve been meaning to do something to raise both awareness of facial cancer and money for some time – and now seems the right time. My chosen charities are See Saw and Let’s Face It. From experience, I know that SeeSaw provides crucial help to grieving children to help them cope with their loss and look forward with hope. They do brilliant work and deserve our help.
’Let’s face It’ provides a support network to help people cope with facial cancer and facial disfigurements. It provides much needed support and practical day to day advice (on things such how to eat when a lot of your upper mouth has been removed). Sometimes those suffering just want a friendly ear when they’re feeling scared and unsure about the future, or upset by stares they might get from strangers – Let’s Face It helps here too.
I know times are tough for a lot of folks but whatever money you can spare will greatly help these charities to help others so please give whatever you can afford and help make a difference.
Graham and Adrian are cycling for the charity Positive Futures that helps young people from deprived communities steer clear of crime, drug and alcohol misuse and move forward in their lives and realise their potential.
