We empower people who are visually impaired to succeed in a sighted world

Story

On Saturday 29 June 2013, Dave Marston and Dave Williams will cycle a tandem from Worcester to Hereford and back again. And because 60 miles over the Malvern Hills is not enough, they will abseil 190ft down Hereford Cathedral.

With your help, they hope to raise a few quid for the Royal National college for the Blind in the process.

Pilot Dave Marston is a guitar-playing scouser. Stoker Dave Williams is a bolshie blind northerner with a weakness for: gadgets, malt whiskey and going on cruises. They met in a pub. Obviously?

The bike is a Cannondale tandem bought from a bloke in Scotland. They started cycling together 18 months ago on the laughable pretence that they would become healthier. The odd thing is that it may be working?

And the abseil? Well they just sort of fell in to that – signing up just 3 days before the ride.

Why RNCB? Dave Williams is a former RNCB student who misspent 3 years of his youth at the college but now recognises the life changing role the college can play in encouraging people who are blind to reach their potential. Also he thinks rasing a few bob will alleviate some of the guilt he feels about skiving lectures to watch horse racing.

Dave Marston enjoys exercise and challenges of all kinds. Cycling with a Bolshie blind bloke is one of the most fun forms of exercise he's ever enjoyed. It's tough exercise too so it's good all round.

The bottom line is the RNC aim to get blind people off their bottoms, in to work, competing in parasport, and generally contributing to the world. That has got to be worth supporting?

If you donate, and the 2 Daves make it home with the bike, well they may just be inspired to try something similar in the future.

No contribution is too small and all will be gratefully received.

Thanks!!!
