Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
My nephew Jake was born 5 ½ weeks early. Unfortunately at 1 ½ he was diagnosed
with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy and the doctors were not sure if he would ever be able to walk. As he grew up he could weight bear and could step but unfortunately due to the high tone in his legs & inner thigh muscles his legs scissored severely, stopping him from walking.
Jake also suffers pain in his muscles and problems with his tummy due
to the Cerebral Palsy.
One day his Mum & Dad heard about a new procedure called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, SDR for short, which would remove a lot of the high tone and scissoring and would mean that he could probably walk one day and live life pain free.
Unfortunately SDR is not routinely funded by the NHS so his Mum & Dad have decided to start fund raising to try to get him this vital surgery.
In conjunction with www.justgiving.com/JakeBourletSDRsurgery and the Give 4 B.E.T.H charity who are kindly supporting us we need to fund raise a total of £35,000.00 for Jake’s SDR surgery in the UK along with the all important Physiotherapy for two years which will ensure that the surgery is as beneficial as possible.
To help contribute towards this goal, this summer both myself and good friend Jason Green intend cycling from Sussex to Devon in a day, a route which will take us through 6 counties and cover over 250km.
To help support Jake please give what you can, however big or little. All funds will directly contribute to Jakes dream of walking.
Thank you. :)
