Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit this JustGiving page.
Jeff, Jez and I will be cycling on behalf of the Kirkwood Hospice where Emma (Jeff’s wife) spent the last few weeks of her life. Visiting Kirkwood was my first experience of spending time in a hospice and it was without doubt a wonderful, wonderful place where staff and volunteers made the patients and visitors feel very special particularly under the circumstances.
Below there are a few words from Jeff, Tom and Hattie who were asked to say a few words about Kirkwood.
Jeff: Husband
My wife was diagnosed with hormone triple negative breast cancer in October 2011. We had amazing care throughout the two years that Emma fought her disease - Locally, at several hospitals in Yorkshire and also at The Christie in Manchester.
Kirkwood Hospice however, is a particularly special place. A place where everybody (from doctors and nurses to volunteers and catering teams) never forget for a second why they are at work that day - to care for Emma and her family. To ensure that her remaining days were as comfortable, peaceful and fulfilling as they could possibly be. To really care.
My wife was a stunning young women who turned heads every day when she walked into a room. She made me laugh every day that I knew her. She gave me two beautiful, beautiful children and enough happy memories to last me a lifetime.
During her short time at Kirkwood, in a different way ,I fell in love with my wife all over again. I will be eternally grateful to all of the angels at Kirkwood for creating an environment for that to happen.
Hattie: Age 9
Kirkwood Hospice looked after my Mum. Every day I went to the hospice after school. I can remember looking forward to going to the hospice every day. I couldn't wait to see Mum. It thrilled me to see her happy and the reason she was happy was because she was in such a nice environment with really nice people and near home. Sadly Mum died on the 10th November. The staff helped me Tom and Dad through the sadness. Kirkwood need money to help other people through their sadness and that is why we are raising this money.
Tom: Age 7
I enjoyed Kirkwood Hospice. Sometimes I felt sad because of Mummy but they were there for me and some of the staff played with me and Tony taught me to paint a picture. I will never forget Mummy and I will never forget Kirkwood.
