Story
For the past 8 years my Mum has been living with Dementia. For anyone who hasn’t experienced Dementia, it is a cruel disease that progressively robs the individual of their memory and personality.
Mum was always a force to be reckoned with, strong-willed, career-driven and extremely independent. However Dementia has seen her forced to step away from the things she loved such as being a School Governor, enjoying holidays and days out with her friends. And has stopped her of experiencing new family memories; birthdays, Christmases and the kids’ graduations. But the most heart-breaking is how it has left her entirely dependent on the care of her family, especially her husband.
In the last year throughout Covid-19 there has been significant deterioration in her condition and external care has had to be increased. Watching mum deteriorate from the character she once was has been incredibly tough on the family, but there is some incredible services that have provided additional care and support throughout her time living with this disease.
Therefore as a family Emma and I will be cycling 250 miles over 30 days in April to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. The money raised will make a big difference to the lives of many affected by dementia. Funding essential support services for people living with dementia and their carers, as well as funding research to find a cure.
This is going to be an incredibly demanding challenge but we are determined to complete it and raise as much money as possible to help beat dementia!
Please donate and support us along the way!
