Story
There are more than 850,000 people in the UK with dementia. 1 in 14 people over 65 have dementia and 1 in 6 over 80. It is estimated that by 2025, the number of people with dementia in the UK will be over million. Unfortunately, there is no cure - so well-funded research is desperately needed.
I have committed to cycle 500 miles in April – to raise funds towards research in Dementia through the Alzheimers Society. I've been cycling throughout the lockdown, forcing myself out of the house every morning (rain or shine) on an 8-mile circuit - so hopefully, that’s enough training to offset the pies I eat when I get home.
To get in the miles through April, I've completed a 100 mile jaunt on Good Friday and lots of local trips around Derbyshire through the rest of the month, involving lots of puffing up steep hills. All my cycling miles will be Covid-secure and not pose any threat to me or anyone else, but may amuse fitness-freaks.
Please donate to support me and ensure Alzheimer's Society can be there for the people who need them most.
