Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
As many of you will already be aware, my son Oscar has autism. TreeHouse is the national charity for autism education and they are based in Muswell Hill,North London. TreeHouse runs a school for 68 children with profound autism.
We will often go to Richmond Park as a family at weekends and Oscar loves riding behind me on his 'tag-along' bike. He's also doing really well riding a trike independently at school. He can pedal and steer and just needs to learn how to brake! With better cycle equipment, more TreeHouse students will be able to enjoy riding as well.
To raise this money, I have organised a ‘Cycle Challenge’ to be held in Richmond Park on Sunday 7 June 2009. The Cycle Challenge will involve Oscar and other TreeHouse children riding a full lap of Richmond Park as a relay. Some of our children can ride a few hundred metres unaided; others may only manage a few metres but the challenge will be to complete the course as a team!
We are aiming to raise £10,000, which will provide a suitable number of new bikes, trikes and tandems and will also benefit the new bike rack that is being installed. The bike rack will protect our equipment and will also benefit the children’s road safety and cycle training.
TreeHouse has been a wonderful experience for him and for us as parents. The energy, care and support that Oscar gets from his teachers has always been outstanding. I hope that we can give something back to the school through this Cycle Challenge.
Special thanks go to Pashley Cycles and Evans Cycles for their generous support. Please visit http://www.pashley.co.uk and www.evanscycles.com for more information.
