Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As I am sure you will know if you are visiting this page, I lost my girlfriend Alex to Bowel cancer in December of last year. When Alex was diagnosed with advanced stage bowel cancer in September, there was nothing that could be done to save her.
Alex was amazing in her last weeks and months with us. She continued to be concerned for others even given the desperate situation that she herself was in. She asked us to work to raise awareness and to prevent this form happening to other young people.
Alex and I had so many amazing times together. Our first trip away together was mountain biking in Wales and we enjoyed many more cycling adventures. It therefore seemed appropriate to take on a cycling challenge in her memory, to raise money for this excellent cause. I think it may be too hard, but that's the point.
The challenge itself follows the route of stage 18 of this year's Tour de France 4 days ahead of the pros. Its 150Km and over 4000m of climbing. Ive been doing my best to get some Kms in since January -1500 Km on the bike so far this year (4th April).
I'm going to put more info about the challenge I am taking on here
cycleforalex.blogspot.co.uk
I'm hoping that 'cycle for Alex' can be about my efforts, training, warm up events and challenges leading up to the big one, rather than just l'etape itself. Is that because I'm scared it might be too hard and I might mess it up? Well that wouldn't be much of a positive mental attitude would it!
Thanks for your support. Any contributions - small or large are very much appreciated!
