Fundraising for Alzheimer's Society
Hello everybody.
Thanks for taking time to read my page.
Being an international student from Mauritius, I have seen that there is a great demand of care that is required for Alzheimer’s patients not only in the UK but also in Mauritius. It is for this reason that I am requesting you to sponsor me so that I may complete my challenge and hence to approach finding a cure. Finding a cure for dementia by the UK will be a global cure, one that will help save millions of lives across the world, including my home country. For the past 2 years, I have been working part-time as a Support worker and especially in the past year, with patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, affecting around 417,000 people in the UK. It is a progressive disease, which means that gradually, over time, more parts of the brain are damaged. As the disease progresses, people with Alzheimer's will need more support from those who care for them. Eventually, they will need help with all their daily activities. Working with these patients has made me realise that we take things for granted in life, especially our mind and as such our memory. Without our memory, life becomes almost meaningless as you will eventually forget what you are living for. Any dreams or aspirations you once had will become insignificant as you will not hold the capacity to remember them anymore, and thus endure a lonely life, a lonely death. It is for this reason alone that I wish to challenge myself and cycle from London to Paris. The funds which will go to the Alzheimer’s Society will be used on the scientific research for finding a cure, which is currently severely under-funded. This means that ultimately the chance of someone suffering from dementia in the future will be close to nothing. I am therefore hoping to raise a considerable amount of money which will go towards the Alzheimer’s Society. The funds will also help to further develop the Alzheimer’s Society’s Helpline which offers advice, up to date information on all aspects of living with Alzheimer. The challenge itself will be the biggest achievement of my life as it requires a strong stamina and perseverance. However I feel that my drive and passion for helping Alzheimer sufferers will ultimately ride me to the final line. Thank you for your support and any sum of money will be kindly appreciated.* Charities pay a small fee for our service. Find out how much it is and what we do for it.
