Dementia is a term used to describe various different brain disorders that have in common a loss of brain function. Dementia is caused by degenerative diseases of the brain and there is currently no cure.
Alzheimer’s Society is the leading support and research charity in the UK for people with dementia and those who care for them.
There are currently 700,000 people with dementia in the UK, which will rise to over 1 million by 2025. This condition has a devastating impact on the lives of those affected, and it's thanks to the generous donations of people like you that Alzheimer’s Society is able to offer its support, advice and services to people with dementia and their carers.
Alzheimer’s Society are a source of support
Through its network of over 2000 services, Alzheimer’s Society helps over 30,000 people every week, providing a range of practical services for people with dementia and their carers, including home and day support
Alzheimer’s Society campaigns for a better quality of life
Through campaigning and media activities Alzheimer’s Society strive to influence government policies and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people living with dementia.
Alzheimer’s Society funds research
Dementia research is desperately underfunded in the UK compared to the impact of the condition. Alzheimer’s Society funds research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia.
Here’s how your money could make a huge difference:
£5 could pay for ten Society Helpcard packs for people with dementia to assist them in dealing with people in daily life.
£20 could support a researcher for a day with the equipment and chemicals needed to develop better treatments in the fight against dementia.
£50 could fund a PhD researcher for one day to continue vital research into understanding the causes of dementia, how it can be treated and, ultimately, to find a cure.
£100 could pay for a brain scan for a participant in a clinical trial to help improve diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
We are deeply grateful for any money you can spare to help Alzheimer’s Society lead the fight against dementia.
