Story
Cultural Fusion have come together as a team to help raise money for the Sickle Cell Society. Sickle Cell is predominantly found in Afro-Caribbean, Asian and Mediterranean cultures. It’s a debilitating condition which seriously impedes quality of life.
I didn't know much about Sickle Cell and when John James the CEO of the Society gave a presentation at the Quadrant last year, I learned more about this condition which has a huge impact on people’s lives for both the sufferers and families of sufferers. I want to do this run to help raise lots of money for the society who can help support patients, families and carers and bring some relief with coping with the illness. The SCS does not receive any government funding and need to rely on fundraising for their existence.

I learnt about Sickle Cell as part of my degree and about the negative impact Sickle Cell Anaemia has on quality of life and life expectancy. I am running to help ensure that all sufferers get the opportunity to live a full and happy life.
James Wood, Senior Management Accountant
Such a great cause, a few of my very close friends either suffer from full Sickle Cell Anaemia or suffer from Sickle Cell trait. I don’t think people realise how much this disease can effect peoples day to day lives, and when they have a crisis, sufferers can be admitted to hospital for weeks. I feel that any cause/charity that is supporting the research of medicines and trying to raise awareness for this awful disease needs to be recognised. Also I feel that sufferers and families of those affected by Sickle Cell need to be recognised, respected and celebrated; they are absolute heroes.
