Story
A number of us are used to training with an organised event such as a half marathon in mind. This helps with motivation and gives some structure to training. During the lockdown, all events have been cancelled and it is not certain when many events will be able to start again (although the London and Manchester Marathons are scheduled for October 2020). Social distancing and mass running events don’t work well together.
So in order to give us something to aim for, we propose an informal half marathon (21.1k) or 10k on Sunday 16th August. There will be no formal organisation, no planned routes, no road closures, no official timekeeping. And we won’t get too near other runners.
Here is how it works:
- Donate £10 on this page
- Join this Strava club: https://www.strava.com/clubs/706269
- Decide if you’re doing a half marathon or 10k
- Choose your own course. It can be wherever you like – it needn’t even be in the UK
- Run your course at some point on the 16th of August
- We’ll have a look on Strava on the 17th to see who was fastest
- Photos uploaded to Strava appreciated but not compulsory
