Hi, we are Paul Crothers, and daughters Laura Knowlson and Fiona Crothers, and we are running our first marathon on October 12 in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

As much as we like to think we are reasonably fit, this tends to be a misguided reflection from running in our school days (which for one of us is much longer ago than the others) and as such running 26 miles is going to be a HUGE challenge.

We are running for Yorkshire Cancer Research in memory of those we have lost through cancer, and also in honour of those who have battled it and survived it. If it wasn't for the fantastic work done by scientists into developing and curing cancer, the treatment that enabled our dad and mum-in-law (grandad and granny) to fight the disease wouldn't have been available. However while there has been great advances in treatment there is still a long way to go before all cancers can be cured and treated, and as such we are still loosing too many people to this disease - one of which was a much loved family friend, who's loss spurred us on to do this. We want to raise money to help Cancer Research find that cure.

And the Yorkshire bit .... well that's just because we don't know of anywhere better :)

Actually it's a bit more that that. Yorkshire Cancer Research has committed to spending more than £20 million to support 200 scientists who are carrying out vital research, ensuring that local people have access to clinical trials, while contributing to the global fight against the disease. Work funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research is currently being undertaken at the Universities of York, Leeds, Hull, Sheffield and Bradford, where scientists are investigating treatments for a variety of cancers.
