Story

Seven ‘Crazy Donkeys’ ride 350 miles in 4 days for Channel Island Air Search.

The team, comprising of Elise Stillwell, Robert Ridout, Toni Clayton, Maria Soler, Alex Ford, Sam Rowe and Ross Coppolo are several months into their training for the event that runs from 26 May till 29 May and are aiming to raise £10,000.00 for the charity.

Channel Island Air Search is set to receive the benefits of the efforts of the seven local cyclists. The group nicknamed “The Crazy Donkeys” are already in training for the huge task of cycling Geneva to Nice in May.

“The Crazy Donkeys” have set themselves the challenge of cycling from Geneva to Nice over four days, covering some 350 miles which includes four long mountain climbs, the longest being just over 10Km.

Their chosen charity, Channel Island Air Search, is a voluntary organisation assisting in saving lives at sea and providing other rescue services with their “eyes in the sky”. The service was formed in 1980 and since then has continued to help save many lives.

Channel Island Air Search is funded completely by donations and the plane is manned by a full crew of volunteers on standby 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year.  The aircraft is a Britten Norman Islander called ‘Lions Pride’ is equipped with some incredibly advanced items that help search for missing vessels and persons in almost any weather.

The team were eager to keep the funds raised within the Channel Islands and have chosen Channel Islands Air Search.  Channel Islands Air Search was chosen due to the fact that they are 100% reliant on charitable donations and cover the entire Channel Islands and adjacent French coast looking for people both on land and out at sea.  It is a key search and rescue asset for the Channel Islands.

The Crazy Donkeys are made up from a group of friends that decided they wanted to take part in a challenge and raise funds at the same time.  All team members will self-fund their challenge ensuring that all money donated will go to Channel Islands Air Search.
