Story

Newsflash: I have now successfully completed all 3 runs "tough", "tougher" and "toughest", and each of these deserve these labels.  I often say that I think people can often do more than they think they can, and on my last run 130 miles, I tested that theory was tested to its limits, I just had to find the way while on the move.

MY INSPIRATION:

I have been inspired by three people in my community: Ray, Ralph and Simon who are living with the progressive neurological condition known as Parkinson’s, to raise funds for Parkinson UK. You can see them in the cover photo with me.  Update: 20th August 2023 - sadly Ray passed away today. (we will miss you!).

T H E   C H A L L E N G E:

I will take part in 3 increasingly challenging running events over a period of approximately 4 months:

  • TOUGH: London Marathon - 23rd April - 26.2miles.  This is the first time I have managed to get a place in this event after trying a number of times over the past 40 years. I have not run a road marathon for about 13 years, and my aim is to get my pace better than it has been for the last decade.
  • TOUGHER: SaltMarsh 75 - 1st July - 75 miles. A continuous
coastal ultramarathon along the remote Essex Saltmarsh coastline.
  • TOUGHEST: Leeds & Liverpool Canal - 26thAugust - 130 miles.  A non-stop race from Liverpool to Leeds along canal towpaths.

These events each will have their discreet challenges but collectively there are further challenges as they have different training requirements and being close together the training for successive events are challenged by the need to recover from the previous ones.

WHY PARKINSON's?

Around 145,000 people live with Parkinson’s in the UK. It is
the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.

It has over 40 symptoms, for example: tremors, pain  and anxiety. Everyone’s experience is different. And there’s no cure, yet.

If you would like to support me in in helping Parkinson’s UK push harder for better treatments, funding the most promising research and reach more people with the support they need, then please donate on this page.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Kindest regards

David

Note: all the expenses I will incur by entering and running these events are being covered by me and not in any part through donations.
