Story
On the 23rd March 2020 my Dad (Ken) lost his long, courageous battle against Cancer.
There are no words to describe the void that has been left, he is missed by so many.
In May 2013 Ken (Dad) was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. After successful surgery and Chemotherapy treatment my Dad recovered well and enjoyed getting back to spending time with his Family & Friends, becoming a Grandad a few times over again too.
He enjoyed the simple things in life, like spending time on holiday with my Mum, enjoying his beloved garden and always happy to offer his help where needed. That's what I loved about my Dad he was always there for you, nothing was to much trouble and best of all he would always have a smile on his face.
In 2015 we received the devastating news that the Cancer had returned and it had now sadly developed into a Brain tumour.
After surgery to remove the tumour and Radiotherapy treatment Dad fought back and made amazing progress. He was on the road to recovery, or so we thought!
Sadly, the Brain tumour reappeared in 2017. More surgery followed and then to make matters worse, Dad had to fight off a severe infection which he fought and pulled through to everyone's relief & amazement.
In 2018 the Brain tumour re-emerged, and after some long and emotional discussions it was decided that it was to dangerous to operate. The only option from there was to try and shrink the tumour.
During 2019 a course of Chemotherapy treatment at Wythenshawe hospital and Radiotherapy at Christies followed. Dad always staying positive throughout, making new friends with not only the patients but of course the nurses.
Sadly the tumour didn't go away and in early 2020 Dad quickly deteriorated, the pain had become almost unbearable. After a period of 3 weeks at St Anne's Hospice for pain management we managed to get my Dad home one last time. The team at St Anne's were amazing, I can honestly say with their expertise, kindness and genuine care for my Dad we all felt reassured in a very upsetting and difficult time. St Anne's Hospice in the final stages of Dad’s illness were amazing with the support and care they gave and showed was truly overwhelming.
In March, my Dad was readmitted to St Anne's with a severe chest infection. After 7 years of fighting this terrible disease Dad said Goodbye to us all on the 23rd March 2020.
I wanted to say how proud I am to say Ken was my Dad. He put up the bravest of fights and remained so positive throughout. He knew deep down how much people cared about him, and I know this gave him strength and courage right to the end.
We never managed to give my Dad the send-off he truly deserved due to Lockdown restrictions. Dad passed away on the 23rd March 2020 only hours later we went into National Lockdown, which has made it even more heartbreaking.
The support and respect you all showed when we left my parents house to lay my Dad to rest, lining the route to Dunham will never be forgotten.
On the 21st March 2021 in memory of Ken (Husband, Dad, Grandad, Uncle, Friend & Neighbour) I will be running The Delamere Way, in the hope of completing the gruelling (21 miles) of hilly trail, starting in Frodsham and finishing in Stockton Heath. I plan to then run a further 5.2 miles to make it up to a full Marathon finishing in Lymm Village (26.2 miles.) This is going to be a tough one as the terrain at this time of the year is brutal.
It will be almost a year since you left us Dad and each day never gets any easier. I know how strong your love for life was and how much you loved your family and friends.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
