Story
Steven Sims was a true gentlemen.
I met Stevie in 2010 through our love for Pipe Bands and was very quickly welcomed by him into the core. There was never a dull moment with Stevie around, with his witty one liners and made up games like when he decided that he would take his shoes off half way through a performance with the Pipe Band without stopping. I know, sounds impossible right? Well not for Stevie! The game ‘Take Your Shoes Off’ was created when we turned to look at him; barefooted, shoes neatly at his side with that priceless smile that could light up the darkest of rooms.....he had done it and we all wanted a shot!!
Steven was the type of man that if he wanted to do something in life one month later he would be doing it. Which is why I've chosen to run the Edinburgh half marathon in May in memory of Stevie because if he has taught me anything it’s that life is too short and you need to live it to the fullest and do everything you want to. Don't live with ‘what if’ but go with ‘no regrets’!
“No excuses, play like Champions!” was a saying often used by Steven Sims to motivate friends to achieve their goals so it’s time I took this advice and run like a champion!
I’ll be running to raise money for Wooden Spoon charity which was chosen by his family as a place they would like people to donate to in his memory.
Wooden Spoon is a Charity for disadvantaged kids set up by the British and Irish Rugby Unions
