Fundraising for Action for A-T
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
Some of you may already be aware of our annual charity cycle event, where a number of great people from around BCA embark on a 3-day cycle challenge to raise much needed funds for a small charity called Action For A-T.
Action For A-T receive no national funding and although the funds we have helped them raise so far has made a huge difference to their research we want to help raise as much as possible for them to continue their great work.
I would be most grateful If you would like to support me and the BCA Team in the following challenges this year.
Sunday 28th May.
Myself and a couple of BCA colleagues will be blowing away the cobwebs and lubricating the joints when joining the Ride100 event, the iconic 100-mile challenge which will start and finish in central London and include a loop of Essex.
Hopefully then set and raring to go for our annual cycling event...
Thursday 14th - Saturday 16th September.
Will be our annual charity cycling event where myself and circa 60 colleagues from around BCA, will be embarking on a 3-day cycle, pedalling 200+ miles.
This year we will be pedalling from our BCA Paddock Wood Auction Centre to Brussels, departing on Thursday 14th travelling south west to Dover to catch the ferry to Calais. Day 2 we will head down the coast towards Ghent and then onto the final leg into Brussels on day 3, finishing on Saturday 16th April.
(“A-T”) is a rare degenerative brain condition that causes many of the same disabling effects as ALS/Motor Neurone's disease only it affects young children. Children are born seeming normal but peak physically around the age of 5 before slowly losing their physical abilities including the ability to walk, talk and even to feed themselves. Mentally they remain unaffected and so they effectively become trapped in a deteriorating body. On top of the severe physical disabilities children with A-T must face, the condition also attacks their immune system. 1 in 3 children with A-T will develop cancer and many will die from lung disease.
More than half will die before they are out of their teens and there is currently no cure.
