Story

Dad (Geoff) was diagnosed with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in around 2017.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a condition in which the lungs become scarred and breathing becomes increasingly difficult.

It's not clear what causes it, but it usually affects people who are around 70 to 75 years old, and is rare in people under 50.

Several treatments can help reduce the rate at which IPF gets worse, but there's currently no treatment that can stop or reverse the scarring of the lungs.

Sadly following a short stay in hospital in December 2021 and January 2022, Dad lost his fight on January 10th 2022 at 64 years old having returned home just the night previous, which is where he wanted to be.

As a family we have been supported in many ways by lots of amazing people be it from birth as one of the quintuplets or because of mums illnesses and brain tumours to Dad being ill. It's time in both my late parents memory to start giving back.

1 in 5 of us will have a lung condition during our lifetime. There's a new diagnosis every minute.I'm running The London Marathon 2024 for Asthma + Lung UK. They're the only UK charity that fights for everyones right to breathe. Every pound I'm able to raise will take us a step closer to a world where everyone has healthy lungs.Just £22 allows one of Asthma + Lung UKs nurses to answer a call on the Helpline, offering potentially lifesaving advice. I'd be very grateful for any donations you could make!
