Story
Wow where do I start......
Almost 4 years ago I had an accident while motocross racing... and apparently come off.... my bike landed on my back which shattered my vertebrae and left me T3 complete paralysed.
I was put into a Koma after a very long operation to bolt me back together and stayed in a deep sleep for 10days. With a few breathing issues sorted I was woken up in intensive care at Bristol Southmead hospital (5 hours from home) to start this new adventure.
Once I had recovered enough I was moved closer to home so I could see my 2 young children, friends and family and start to build a little.
It was the time for the real work of spinal rehabilitation at Stoke Mandeville.... this is where I met wheel power who I am fundraising for!! they where such a support and to meet others in wheelchairs with all kinds of stories and injuries and to see the normal life they live independently and have fun with it all ... it really gave me confidence!! and introduced me to the love of wheelchair sports!
Unfortunately my start to paralyses wasn't great and after my 1st stage of rehabilitation, getting home to start my new life I soon become bed-ridden.... I lost all my left side in strength and sensation, couldn't get out of bed and become very dependant on my partner. long and short of it I had to have another operation to drain a cyst that had formed unexplainably from inside my spinal cord which lead me to loose sensation and strength on my left side with the pressure from it and with being a high injury to begin with my arms where my independence. Thankfully I did regain my strength back 95%, my sensation on the other hand isn't great but I can live with that!! I am now C2 incomplete because of this.
Another batch of rehab back at Stoke Mandeville before covid hit and again Wheel power supported me a second time with fitness!! and I come out on top!!
So being who I am I don't let anything get me down, its always been on my bucket list ..... LONDON HERE I COME!!! this is for me !! and what better way to take this opportunity to give back to such an amazing charity and say the biggest thank you for your continued support through my adventure and new life!!
