As a former student offor the Blind, now New College Worcester, I’m eternally grateful for the excellent education I received and the opportunities this opened for me. Without this, I could not have gone to university and would not have pursued gainful employment for 26 years, let alone gone on to become self employed.
I also thank the College for introducing me to many of my current interests, including amateur radio.
The current students now need as much support, if not more, than I received. They need an excellent education to equip them, as blind/vision impaired people to deal with the complexities of modern life.
I an seeking sponsorship for my entry in this year’s CQ WW CW (Morse Code) amateur radio contest. This event takes place for 48 hours during the weekend of 29 - 30 November. The object is to establish two-way contact with as many stations throughout the world as possible on six frequency bands. I’ll be taking part from my home in , where I made over 2000 contacts in the same event last year.
all money raised will go to New College Worcester.
This year, with poor propagation conditions, but hopefully with an improved station, I’ll be seeking sponsorship per contact, or even a donation to recognise the 36 hours I intend to put in during the weekend. To add a bit of fun, sponsors are invited to guess my final score – the closest guess will win a copy of the College’s new fund raising CD.
The scoring for this event is quite complex, the number of contacts made is only loosely related to the final score. Contacts withinscore 1 point, whilst those to other continents score 3. Apart from being divided into countries, the world is divided into 40 zones and it’s possible to contact each country and zone on each of the six bands. The final score is the number of points accrued through contacts, multiplied by the number of countries and zones contacted on all bands. Last year, I scored just over 900,000 points.
Please contact me directly to submit your guess of my claimed score, terry@describe-online.com.
Many thanks for your support.
