Trek26 Brecon Beacons - 13 miles · 4 September 2021 ·

Journey through a spectacular area of wild moorland, tumbling waterfalls and sweeping mountain slopes in the Brecon Beacons. Trek for loved ones, and raise money so together we can find a cure.

Story

My grandad has suffered with vascular dementia for a few years now. He struggles with his memory and he forgets who I am most days. I have seen the impact dementia can have on a family. Last year he wandered alone from his home and managed to travel 5 miles away by bus with his slippers on. With the support of the police and the public he was found safe and sound. From the huge grin on his face when he returned home, I think he enjoyed his day out exploring.

I am trekking these 13 miles with him in mind and for my nan, who cares for him 24/7 with no respite. I want to raise awareness for the disease and the Dementia Safeguarding Scheme. Wandering is a common problem with dementia sufferers. If you see a vulnerable person wandering alone out in public wearing a yellow wristband, please alert the authorities. They can use Near Field Communication technology to access the wearer's details. This will ensure the person is returned home safely and would save families a lot of stress and worry.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for making a donation 💙🥰
