Story
I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2010, and the last two years haven't been a barrel of monkeys. Crohn's Disease is a life-limiting illness that primarily attacks the digestive system, causing excruciating abdominal pain, constant diarrhoea (sorry guys), as well as bleeding, deep scarring and ulcerations in the intestines. Secondary symptoms of Crohn's are arthritis (tick), hideous amounts of fatigue (tick), skin lesions (tick), and inflammation of the eyes which can be extremely serious (still waiting for that one). Most patients will have to have surgery to remove areas that have strictured and can not be repaired.
Treatment for Crohn's is limited, as it is still fairly new in terms of diseases. The drugs I have to take can cause cancer, and make me pretty ill sometimes. There is no cure.
So the inimitable Kat O'Donnell and I have decided to attempt to raise some money so a smart scientist-type can discover a cure, and I can get out of bed on the weekends again. A 10km walk may not sound like a huge challenge to most of you, but as the Crohn's has delivered me some glorious arthritis in both Achillies tendons, my right ankle and my right knee, it will be a big acheivement for me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I really hope you can spare a bit of cash for us and my broken insides.
