Story
We are both transplant recipients who have been chosen to be part of a team to climb, in honour of our donors, an active volcano in Ecuador, Cotopaxi, in July 2015.
I, Vicky, have cystic fibrosis and my lung capacity was down to 20% when I received my call in August 2010 for new lungs.
I, John, was diagnosed with heart failure
and was given my wonderful gift of a new heart in July 2000, nearly 15 years
ago.
Thanks to these amazing gifts, we have both been able to achieve many things that, prior to our transplant, would have been unthinkable. From marathons and cycling events to crossfit competitions and archery tournaments, we have fought to gain our fitness back and to live life to the full.
Now, our latest challenge is to climb 5897 meters of Cotopaxi. This climb will challenge us with its height, its altitude and its temperature as well as being mentally challenging and teaching us how to work as part of a team.
To achieve this amazing task ahead of us, we are looking to raise funds to support us in our challenge and also to raise funding and awareness of a new technology “The Organ Care System” which enables the transporting of donor organs and extends the transplantation window from the existing 3 hour limit to 8 hours therefore having the ability to save more lives as well as providing other significant medical benefits.
Anything you can give to help support us on our endeavor will be gratefully received. Thank you for you kindness and support.
Vicky & John
