Story
My name is Corryn Miller i am 17 years old and i am currently studying for my A-levels. In February 2023 i will be travelling to Uganda with the charity EDUKID; this is my page to help raise funds for my trip.
EDUKID is a UK registered charity that helps remove the barriers for children living in extreme poverty and conflict, giving them the opportunity to go to school, have an education, get qualifications and get a job. All things that they would not have been able to do without the help of EDUKID.
After the 21 year long civil war, many children in Uganda were left as orphans with no money to attend school, no home, and only the clothes on there back. EDUKID provides a primary and secondary education for these children, as well as accommodation for girls too scared to return home as it will result in them getting ‘married off’ in order to gain money to feed their family. The aim of this is to allow disadvantaged children to get the right qualifications, live a happy, healthy life and to provide a bright future where they can support themselves, their families and their community.
This trip will be a life changing opportunity and a real eye opener into how other counties live and how fortunate we are as a society. During my time in Uganda i will be visiting local schools in the town of Gulu and meeting with the children, teachers and families learning their way of life and the struggles that they face daily. I will also be attending emergency home visits and helping these families by rebuilding their banda (mud hut home), going to the local market and buying things such as mattresses and clothes and supporting these families as much as possible.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help me take part in this opportunity and help make a difference to the children and families forced to live in these conditions. *I will also be doing fundraising events to raise money
Thank you, corryn 😊
