I'm running with the Newcastle University team in the Great North Run this year, and raising money for the Jubilee Debt Campaign, Stop Aids and Oxfam. I really think these are three excellent charities, who do incredible work helping some of the poorest people in the world.

These charities particularly need our support, given that an extra one hundred million people have been pushed back into utter destitution by the current global financial crisis. In the past, these charities have been extrememly effective in the relief of poverty and disease and have undoubtedly saved and improved many lives - they will continue to do so with our support.

Half of the sponsorship money raised by the team will be sent to JDC (formerly Jubilee 2000) for its work to reduce global poverty by the cancellation of unpayable debt. From the other money donated by you, 40% will go to Oxfam and 10% to the Stop AIDS Campaign.
