Story
All four patients taking on this corridor challenge arrived at the RHN unable to walk and required two assistants as well as hoists to be able to move.
Due to their determination and the amazing work of the RHN staff, all four participants have reached a huge milestone and can now walk short distances by themselves with only supervision as a necessary precaution. This will be a huge challenge for them all.
As a way of saying thank you and to raise vital funds for the RHN, Bernadette, David, Graham and Nicole will be taking on their own challenge- walking the main corridor of the hospital on Wednesday 17th June at 3:15pm.
Check out this video from the day of the challenge!

"In 2019 I was rushed to ICU fighting for my life with Guillain Barre Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder where the immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system. When I woke up I was paralysed and unable to move or speak. After weaning off the tracheostomy ventilation I moved to the RHN for rehabilitation. I have benefitted from a holistic experience with brilliant clinical care combined with excellent physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Thanks to the ongoing care and support that I am receiving, I’m now able to walk a few steps with an aid- the feeling has come back in my fingers and they are continuing to recover. I’m so grateful to everyone at RHN for improving my quality of life and helping me to gain back more independence. I would now like to give something back and help to raise some money for this fantastic hospital." - Bernadette
"I came to the RHN on 6/1/20 unable to speak, with a tracheostomy, flat on my back, barely moving on my right side and paralyzed on my left. I communicated by blinking and through an alphabet board. After a devastating brain stem stroke in A&E on 2/11/19 and a time on life support things still looked bleak. But now I am off the Trachy, talking, walking with a walker, showering myself, eating & drinking, and the future is much brighter. Thanks so much to everyone at the RHN for believing in me and pushing me. It is working! "- Rev. David
"I have been at RHN because I spent time during Christmas having 3 operation on a tumour in my brain and developed complications. I have spent six months in rehabilitation at RHN and am really coming on with the physios, OT’s and Speech and language therapists. I feel I am in the best care available." - Graham
Nicole at the age of 20 came to the RHN after complications relating to a brain tumour. She is now able to walk again due to her continued care, rehabilitation and dedication.
