Story
We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of friends, family, colleagues and even complete strangers in their support for our fundraising for BTRC (the Brain Tumour Research Campaign charity) in the last nine years. Over £100,000 has been donated in Corrado's memory since March 2009.
These funds have been used to create the Corrado Grassini PhD Fellowship in memory of Corrado. The Fellowship has enabled further research into the causes of, and treatments for, brain tumours to be carried out by a PhD student, Julia Langer.
Brain tumours are the most common cause of cancer deaths in children under 15, more men under the age of 45 and more women under the age of 35 die from a brain tumour than any other cancer and 20% of all cancers now spread to the brain. The Brain Tumour Research Campaign works with a team of clinicians, academics and pathologists from the Imperial College Health Science Centre at Charing Cross hospital in London to fund research into the causes of, and treatments for, brain tumours, and to raise awareness of the need for research into this devastating disease.
