Story
I am Cormac, I am 13 and I have released 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables' from the world famous musical 'Les Miserables'
A song steeped in the roots of musical theatre, my interpretation of the words steer it away from the French Revolution to reflect on the human impact of COVID-19.
How can you help? If you have enjoyed listening to 'Empty Chairs', please donate and help us make sure we still have an industry left as we head onto 2022.
'Acting for Others' provides financial and emotional support to all theatre workers in times of need through the 14 member charities.
I chose this charity because of just how important, singing, music and acting have become to me and I am learning so much from the wonderful people I meet along the way. My parents and I had really no idea just how much dedication, commitment and as my mum would say 'sheer bloody hard work' it takes to master your craft.
Hit so hard by the pandemic, I wanted to do my little bit to support the people that you don't see in the wonderful world of 'THE ARTS'
A little bit about me - I started singing when I was about 8 but I didn't ever think it would end up being such a big part of my life. Up until the pandemic, it wasn't really, I enjoyed it but it was mainly just for fun. It is still really fun but when I couldn't see my Nannie in Northern Ireland because of COVID, I started singing songs for her online and it all just went a little bit crazy after that.
An important person at Decca Records, heard me sing and I ended up recording an album. I'm not signed to them any more but it doesn't matter because I still went on to do lots of really exciting things.
In 2021 I got to the final of the BBC Songs of Praise / Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year and I was invited to be a soloist at two charity carol concerts for 'Macmillan' and 'Family Action'. I loved singing at these events, it was both a pleasure and a privilege to support them.
I was also very fortunate to meet Dominic Ferris. Dominic is a pianist first and foremost but he's also a music producer and under his guidance I was able to go back into the studio and record some new tracks. This self - funded project, also introduced me to the talented sound engineer, Simon Hanhart. 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables' was a team effort and I am very grateful to everyone who helped me create my own version of this beautiful song.
A little bit more about 'Acting for Others' - For every successful theatre worker, there are hundreds of actors, dancers, musicians, lighting technicians, wardrobe staff, front of house, backstage workers who are not so fortunate. At this difficult time, the theatre industry needs your support more than ever. With the ongoing uncertainty, tens of thousands of theatre workers across the UK are facing unemployment and financial uncertainty for a number of months to come.
Thank you.
Cormac 🤗
