Fundraising for Saint Francis Hospice
I am Medical Director of our hospice, and one of the hospice Consultants. so that I know what care is needed, and how much the hospice staff and volunteers want to give, yet in the context of national financial challenge it is harder than ever raise the amount Saint Francis Hospice needs to fund our care. Even as we are now receiving more referrals than ever.
I did the 12,000 steps a day in March last year; it was possible then as I had a good bit of Annual Leave at that time - so I could double do when I was off. When I'm at work I spend much of my time sitting with people, so I can't echo the footsteps my nursing and HCA colleagues do.
This year I was determined to do it again, but - disaster: less annual leave and then got Covid! So I had to work at home for a week in March, and it is REALLY hard to jump up and down or pace up and down stairs for 12,000 footsteps when not 100%. So at month end I'm way behind. But I have an AL week next week and my plan is to walk 24, 000 + steps each day to secure a month total of 12,000 x 31 - sorry everyone for delivering a week late! My month end will be on 10th April and ... I think I can do it!
Thank you thank you to all for donating to me, the slowcoach. Any donation will give me spirit for my daily walking. And will be so much appreciated by the hospice. Each hour of care on the ward costs £25.25 so I'm hoping I can manage to raise a few hours of special hospice care.
