Story
In 1984, my sisters and I lost the most influential person in our lives - our mum. After a brave 8 year battle with cancer she lost the fight.
Life for me carried on; I met and married my childhood sweetheart and we had 2 beautiful girls. There were ups and downs, but life was good.
In 2010 I received the most devastating news any wife, mother of young children, sister and auntie could hear; I had stage 3 cancer. I had so many questions, but the question I wanted answered the most was - was my life going to end prematurely like it did for my mum?
Let the battle commence and after 2 years of gruelling treatment, in 2012 I got the all clear.
Since then I have answered the question I had in 2010; my life was not going to end prematurely like it did for my mum. The love I have for my husband has grown, our daughters are the most wonderful children anyone could ask for, my sisters and I continue to get up to mischief together, I am surrounded by nieces, nephews and friends, make a difference to 700 children every day and to top it all Jezz and I now have 2 grandchildren who we absolutely adore. How lucky am I!
My life journey so far has only been possible because of research into cancer. My treatment was so much more advanced than my mums. I am still part of ongoing research and for this I will always be grateful to the work cancer research does.
So here is why I am sharing my life history with you……
Over the years I have held cancer BBQs, taken part in Race for Life to fundraise for cancer, but 10 years on from getting the all clear I wanted to do something different.
Anyone who knows me well, knows I am not the most active person around and do not always make this a priority in my life, but for the month of March (and hopefully beyond) this is going to change.
I have signed up to ‘Walk All Over Cancer’. I will be completing 310,000 steps in March (avg 10,000 per day) to raise money for this worthwhile cause and I would be grateful to anyone who would sponsor me to do this. Any donation, small or large, would be greatly appreciated. You can donate on my Justgiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising-edit/coralgetsactive
My life continues to bring me so much happiness- let's make this a hope for so many other people. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for all your support.
