UPDATE!! It's all over for now, we had a brilliant time at the Great North Run and weirdly both got almost exactly the same times as we did for Bristol - Phil did 1:39:05 and I got 2:01:55 so very happy with that. Thanks so much to everyone who generously donated, we've raised loads for SafeHands for Mothers, very much appreciated.

This year I'm running 3 half marathons to raise money for SafeHands for Mothers, a small charity which aims to reduce maternal mortality in developing countries. As many of you know, I work as a Librarian for MIDIRS (Midwives Information & Resource Service), and almost every day at work I come across another appalling statistic about the number of women who die during childbirth.

To put this into perspective a little bit, last year 2100 women died during childbirth in Sierra Leone; compared to just 1 in the Republic of Ireland. And the real tragedy is that many of these deaths are easily preventable, 'simply by having a pair of safe hands to care during pregnancy and when giving birth'.

So if you could help me out by donating I would really appreciate it - I don't mind whether you can only afford £2 or £20, it's the giving that counts! And as you can see from the photofit, Phil Kenny was present and correct for the Bath Half Marathon, but is currently battling on a number of injury fronts and cannot be fully confirmed fit at this stage. So if you would like to donate for Phil, I'm happy to look after the donation on his behalf!
