Please help us raise money for groundbreaking baby cooling technology that can help treat newborn babies with brain injury
Hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE), is when a baby’s oxygen supply is interrupted during birth which can cause brain injury that can lead to death or permanent disability.
HIE occurs in 2 of every 1,000 births in the UK.
Cooling treatment (mild hypothermia) is now being used to help with the healing process. This is achieved using NEW specialist equipment that lowers your baby’s body temperature from 37 degrees to 33.5 degrees centigrade to aid with the brains’ healing process.
This procedure can only be carried out in neonatal units, by healthcare professionals with specialist training and ONLY IF EQUIPMENT IS AVAILABLE. St George’s Hospital sees on average, 2 babies per month who require this support. Currently, the hospital has only 2 cooling mats on site - we are so thankful that Kyle was considered suitable to take advantage of their last device to aid his recovery at birth.
We want to try and raise £14,000 to buy another cooling mat for the hospital, so that if 3 or more babies are in need, we can help ensure that at least one more family can have a fighting chance at this new life saving technology!
Please help us by donating what you can, we will also be running Fundraising events later in the year to support this cause.
Thank you,
Amy & Damon
