Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2011 I was struck down with Kidney failure. After spending 5 weeks in hospital, one of which in Intensive care, I was told the news I would need a kidney transplant to sustain a normal life, especially at the young age of 35. Days later my younger brother Graeme stepped forward and became my living donor. After a lengthy work up process, we had the transplant in January 2012 at Guys Hospital in London. A year on, everything has gone so well and im feeling great.
None of this would be possible of course without my brother and my family and friends, but the work of Kidney Research UK gave me the best possible chance of a full recovery. It allowed the doctors and nurses at Maidstone Hospital, Kent and Canterbury Hospital and Guys Hospital to give me the best care available, and ensure my transplant was as successful as can be. I literally owe all these people my life.
16 months on from my transplant, and just over 2 years since I almost died, I get to give back just a snippet by cycling around the county of Kent. The county I was born in and the county I love so much. A 200 mile cycle ride where I need to give it my all is the least I can do. The Tour De Kent starts and finishes at Gillingham FC, is over 3 days and visits 21 of Kent's biggest football grounds including Margate, Dover, Ashford, Maidstone, Tonbridge, Dartford and Ebbsfleet. Its a massive challenge, I know that. But I feel really excited by the prospect of completing it and raising money for such a worthwhile charity that is very close to my heart.
Any donation you are able to make would be very much appreciated. As the advert says " Every little helps! ".
Many thanks and hope to see you all soon. Take care.
