Kat & Jon have lots of fond memories of Llandudno & the surrounding area from when our parents Daphne & Andrew used to take us on holidays and days out there as children. So when we found out that the Conwy Half Marathon was taking place on what would've been mum's 71st birthday it seemed like the perfect challenge to take on and do a bit of fundraising for the Christie, who did so much to help make her life more bearable when she was suffering with Cancer. Perhaps we won't remember this visit with the same fondness as those from our childhoods (the word 'gruelling' springs to mind!), but please give generously & make it worth the slog! :-)
For those reading this that don't know the story, it's now over 14 years since we lost our mum to cancer, which granted is a long time but the memories remain and there's still a hole in our lives where she should be. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988 when Kat was 7 and Jon was 11. After various treatments and a mastectomy, she went into remission. However sadly the disease returned six years later. She fought it bravely as it took her mobility, her strength and eventually her life, finally passing away in March 1999. Our father followed her four years later. The Christie did a lot to make this sad period more dignified and bearable, hence we are fundraising for them so that they might continue to do the same for others facing cancer.
