A Refugee Support team went to Moldova to support the country and the many Ukrainians who had fled there. Within 12 days, they had identified a key need they could fill, formed partnerships, found a location and started distributing aid with dignity
Story
Refugee Support will be part of yet another huge effort by civil society to help people on the move. They are helping in Southern Romania and Moldova where many are crossing from the South but where there is less support.
It is also clear that many of the people crossing are more vulnerable. Most are women, children and older people.
Not only have they worked in the chaos of refugee camps for 5 years, they have helped in similar situations in Bangladesh and in Mexico where emergent crises needed an immediate response.
People on the move need to see friendly faces offering them essentials so they can continue their journeys. That will be food and water. But it is not just material support that is needed.
Everything they do is driven by respecting the dignity of the people they support and that is the most important thing we can do.
By donating cash you are also support the border communities that are receiving the people who have fled because they spend it all locally.

Across Europe, people on the move face an increasingly hostile environment, often after a traumatic journey.
Refugee Support's pioneering Dignity Centres provide a safe, welcoming space where people on the move can choose food and hygiene items, just like a normal shopping experience.
