Story
On the 2nd March at 4pm I received a phone call I will never forget, Mallaidh was in hospital and I had to come in straight away, she has Leukemia and the Doctors want to speak to me. The last month has been a complete whirlwind of emotions but two things have been constant, Mallaidhs complete and total bravery and the care and compassion of all the staff in the Childrens Hematology Unit in Belfast's Royal Hospital for Sick Children. As her treatment progresses Mallaidh is now losing her hair. Anyone who knows Mallaidh knows exactly what her "Anna" hair means to her, its a key part of who she is and she loves nothing more than having it brushed, put in plaits, shiny hair clips and Tiaras. She wont have that for a little while. She is my wee buddy and always there to pick me up even at only 5 years old so I've decided to shave my head with her to support her and raise money in these Covid times for a very much needed service.
As a family we have been here before. 30 Years ago my wee brother Brendan was diagnosed with the exact same Cancer in the exact same ward. We saw first hand the amazing work these guys do over a 3 year period and unbelievably things have only got better in here.
The children's cancer unit charity play a vital role in not just supporting the staff and kids but their whole families who can be staying here for weeks and months at a time. In recent years they have built 2 new first class Isolation rooms (1 of which Mallaidh is staying in!) provided safe events for kids and families outside of hospital and funded additional staff and equipment.
So I'm asking for your help to support this fantastic charity, Mallaidh and all the kids & staff on the children's cancer wards here the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Every donation no matter what is greatly appreciated.
