Story
On January the 18th 2020, I've committed to taking part in 24 hours of freezing cold, wet, probably icy (and/or snowy) leg burning madness! I took part in Strathpuffer for the first time this year as part of a team of 4 and found it extremely tough, so the obvious thing to do next was to go solo right?... I know it's going to be brutal but absolutely worth it to raise funds for this charity which I've now built a special relationship with.
Towards the end of 2017 I got a call from the Anthony Nolan charity, they said that I was a potential match for someone who needed a stem cell transplant and asked would I be willing to donate. I donated on January the 15th and was blown away by how well I was looked after and just how much work the charity does by linking donors to recipients all over the world. I've since had a card very recently which was directly from the person who my donation went to - what an amazing thing to know they are doing OK and still recovering.
Since the donation I've been lucky enough to use my own experience to recruit more potential donors through my work. SFRS and Anthony Nolan work together to recruit young people onto the register by visiting schools and delivering information about the charity to hopefully save more lives.
Training has been hard and there's a lot more to get in before race day, but what better way to mark 2 years since my donation than with 24 hours of hell. I'll be spurred on knowing it's for a good cause, so if you can donate any amount at all - know that its going to a wonderful charity and I will absolutely have to earn every penny we raise. Thanks!
P.S - If you are under 30 years old, please sign up to join the register!

"Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day."
