Story
This September I will be supporting Crohn's & Colitis UK by taking part in the TREK IT - Source to Spires challenge. This is a 2 day trek covering a 30 mile route from the beautiful market town of Lechlade to the stunning city of Oxford. It will involve a 20 mile walk on the Saturday, and a 11 mile walk on the Sunday.
I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2021, following several months of illness and hospital visits, and I am still undergoing some tests. I have struggled with these issues for several years, but only after my most recent flare have I been able to get a diagnosis of Crohn's. Over the years, I have been told by GPs that I just have IBS caused by stress, or that I had Campylobacter (which it later turned out I didn't), so finding out I have Crohn's is a relief, as I finally have answers and a correct treatment.
Right now over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong condition that many people have never heard of. Because of the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding Crohn's and Colitis, thousands of people are suffering in silence. Crohn's & Colitis UK support all affected by Crohn's and Colitis and work to improve diagnosis and treatment, fund research into a cure and raise vital awareness.
Crohn's & Colitis UK have provided a wealth of support and information, along my journey. Due to my condition, I am often exhausted, doing this walk will be a personal challenge (but at least I get to take photos of beautiful architecture : ) ), and I appreciate anything you may be able to donate to the cause.
