Story
As we can't participate in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival this May, the families in our street will run (or briskly walk) a mile each, starting in our street and going all the way around Victoria Park, being cheered on by each other and our neighbours from their windows and front gardens.
Lockdown has been a challenge in many different ways for all of us, so we are in urgent need of some outdoor fun while hopefully also doing something for a good cause. Caring for elderly people has always been a cause close to my heart and a lot of older people in the community will feel even more isolated now than ever. I regularly volunteer for Meal Makers, which is run by a charity called Food Train, which entails bringing home-cooked food to older people in the local community. This is a vital service even in normal times, but especially now.
The dedicated staff and volunteers at Food Train continue providing an essential service in the community by delivering vital weekly food and grocery supplies to frail and vulnerable older people in self-isolation. As we face the greatest medical crisis of our generation, Food Train is committed to the ongoing provision of our shopping service as well as increasing the number of people that we deliver to through these challenging times. As a charity that relies on the additional funding donated by the amazing generosity of the public and businesses, the current challenge for us is to sustain the level of donations required to maintain our services. During this difficult time, we understand that many families face their own challenges. Money is limited and the priority will always be taking care of your loved ones. We simply ask that if you have the means to support us during this timtime, that you consider supporting our mission to help vulnerable older people. Stay safe and stay well.
