I never feel like I do enough for charity, I doubt I am alone in this, so I decided to run a great community event that everyone can get involved in, meeting new and familiar faces from around the neighbourhood. It allows all of us in the community to get to know our local businesses in on a more personal level. This is the first event I am holding and decided on Barnardo's as I know a lot of mums out there now and they would do anything for their children. Well with this event we are aiming to give to those vulnerable children, that need our help, the best start in their lives.

Here is a wonderful example of Barnardo's achieves for the less fortunate children:

"Without Barnardo's, Tom could have ended up in care. Thankfully, he can now be kept safe in his family" - Three year old Tom's mother was having mental health difficulties and issues with substance misuse. Tom had also suffered injuries during incidents of domestic violence between his parents. 

Bernard's worked with Tom's family and social worker on a plan. It was decided that, rather than go into care, Tom should stay with his uncle. Tom now has supervised contact with his parents, support from other family members and a safe, happy home to grow up in.

• £200 could pay for a disadvantaged young parent to attend an eight week parenting course

• £500 could help ten mums and their children out of abusive homes

• £1,000 could build a specialist climbing frame for disabled children

• £2,000 could give four vulnerable toddlers their only hot meal a day for a whole year
