1 in 4 women experience domestic abuse in their life. For many women home is not a safe place, and the prospect of staying home in isolation leads to worry and fear for women living with domestic abuse.
No woman should face the impossible choice of staying safe from Coronavirus or domestic abuse. Home can be a place of abuse and violence and the prospect of staying at home for a long period leads to worry and fear for the women and children Solace supports. That's why they need our support to make sure the team can be there for them when they call, and when they need somewhere safe to sleep.
Solace has an achievable vision of a world where women and children live their lives free from all forms of violence. We can help to create that world.
Let's help to make sure they can #StaySafeAtHome.
Solace provides refuge, accommodation, psychological and therapeutic services, advice and community to vulnerable women and children, and are one of very few support functions that are keeping their doors open through this pandemic.
Solace’s chief exec Fiona Dwyer said: “We are increasingly worried that women are not able to reach out for help due to being monitored 24/7 by their abuser. We are really concerned about women living in isolation with their abusers and the challenges they face keeping themselves and their children safe. We anticipate that there will be an enormous spike in demand after the lockdown period has ended. Right now, we are at full stretch ensuring that our services can continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable - keeping our refuges and supported accommodation open to referrals and supporting women to be safe through our community services.”
