We support research at St Mark's Hospital to drive clinical improvements for patients

Story

St Mark’s do brilliant work and together we can help them achieve their aim, or assist them on the way to 'creating a future free from the fear of bowel disease.'

I have many friends who are patients at St Mark’s Hospital and even more who suffer from Bowel Disease. These are debilitating conditions that come in an array of disguises and you truly might not realise the pain and suffering one can endure and still manage to put on a smile.

Time and time again I’ve been taught lessons in perseverance and bravery from people who refuse to let their conditions shape them. I have often wondered if I could be as strong as they are. This is my way of channeling that inspiration and saying thank you to the wonderful medical teams who support those I am lucky enough to call friends.

These conditions are often referred to as ‘invisible’ due to the difficult nature of seeing what’s going on inside, behind those incredible smiles and stoic attitudes. As I mentioned before, it's my experience that more often than not those with serious health conditions post up with such positive vibes that you would be forgiven for not realising the extent of what they are going through. We need to talk more regularly and openly about Bowel Disease, and to keep working to remove the antiquated taboo of poo.

Any sponsorship is greatly appreciated and although you might think that I’m kinda sporty and running won’t be a problem, please know that after rollerblading for 20 years I have the knees of a pensioner. But I am loving the headspace that running provides so I am motivated to run the Half Marathon and hopefully do so in a decent time.. so I won’t be able to slack on the training!

If you read all of that and you are here to donate, thank you from one very humbled dude.
