Story
On the 26th June, a number of cycling friends and I completed an 8848 Everesting event. Basically you choose a mountain, cycle up and down until you complete 8848 meters, you can stop for food and hydrate as many times as you wish. We picked Sorrel Hill at Lacken, Co. Wicklow on the lake drive. 257 meters of climbing and just over 4km long. Sounds simple, we had to complete 35 reps at only 300km long. I started at 4.15 on Saturday morning and finished at 2.30 on Sunday morning, that’s 22hours after many months training. We were joined by many other cycling colleagues who joined us during part of the cycle for morale support. The 6 of us from Naas Cycling Club are all up on the Everesting “Hall of Fame”, less than 80 Irish cyclist have managed to complete this challenge and we have the oldest 2 in Ireland in our group. We chose to do the cycle in aid of the Jack & Jill Foundation, I would appreciate a donation. Thanks, Colm Dardis
