Story
On the 8th November 2021, we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken to learn of the passing of our precious daughter, sister, aunt and friend Martha O’Neill, who died suddenly and unexpectedly at 45 years old.
Martha the daughter of Mary and Pat O’Neill (RIP), sister to Gerard, Anne (Molloy) and Seamus and sister-in-law to Ciaran and Geraldine. Partner to Gerard Doherty, and aunt to Caolán, Colleen, Cathaoir, Fionnán, Oisín and Aodhán.
Martha lived in Aughnagar and was always very proud of her roots with both Galbally and Killeeshil. She was known and loved by many, renowned for her ‘cure of the sore back’ which was a godsend to many.
A gifted GAA player, Martha wore the Galbally Oonagh Celts jersey with immense pride, and of more recent, Galbally Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others for which she graced the pitches of Páirc an Chrócaigh with her teammates. Although she did not look too intimidating in terms of size on a football field, she surely made her presence felt when she got her hands on the ball.
Martha’s smile was infectious, she lit up any room she walked into, you would have heard her before you seen her with her hardy laugh. For those of you who didn’t know Martha, she was one of the most selfless, witty and happy go lucky individuals.
Martha worked in Skea Eggs for almost 20 years, displaying her commitment and dedication to her valued work colleagues.
She never refused a night out and was the life and soul of any party whether it was in Omagh, Dungannon, Cookstown or even Spain. Martha was an avid Tyrone fan, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on, most recently when they won the All Ireland Final in September.
It was only two months later we were devastated to learn of Martha’s sudden passing. We, Martha’s family and friends are taking part in the Belfast Marathon Relay Race on Sunday 1st May 2022 in Martha’s memory and to raise awareness on suicide and much needed funds for Pieta House, who provide support for those with suicidal ideation and those who have been bereaved by suicide.
Pieta' vision is a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance. By supporting us you will allow us to strive to make this a reality.
