Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 5th September 2019 a team from the Royal Welsh accompanied by Ryan Jones completed a relay run from Maindy Barracks in Cardiff to Hightown Barracks in Wrexham by 3pm Friday 6th September.
Why!?!?!?! The challenge was the first part of a three year fundraising campaign organised by Captain (Retired) Colin Jones to raise funds for Blind Veterans UK. Colin has chosen to support Blind Veterans UK to honour Captain Stephen Healey who tragically lost his life while serving in Afghanistan. Prior to his final deployment, Stephen had been a keen supporter of the charity, which had supported a member of his regiment who had lost his sight as a result of stepping on an IED.
Other challenges planned over the 3 year period include;
- 31st December 2019: Pen Y Fan Blindfolded Ascent (completed successfully!)
- 20th June 2021: Snowdon Blindfolded Ascent (originally planned for 2020 but postponed due to Covid)
- September 2021: Berlin to Wrexham Barracks Cycle Challenge
- September 2021: Llandudno to Wrexham Blindfolded Walk
Blind Veterans UK offer life time support, rehabilitation, training and equipment to blind veterans in order to ensure they are able to lead fulfilling and independent lives. A great deal of this training is offered via the charities Llandudno Centre in North Wales. All funds raised by this campaign will be used at this centre, which is used by veteran from all over the UK.
You can support the team members in their challenge by making a donation and sharing this page via your social media channels.
Thank you for your support!
