Story
On 29th May, I'll be taking part in RideLondon and attempting to cycle 100 miles (which is about four times as far as I have ever ridden in one go) to raise vital funds for the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA). There are around 50,000 people living with a spinal cord injury (SCI) in the UK, and approximately 2,500 people sustain or acquire a spinal cord injury each year. That's one person every eight hours! SIA support SCI people and their families through their regional support coordinators, specialist SCI nurses, support line and counselling service, as well providing advocacy, CHC advice and campaigning for change.
My motivation came from an incredibly inspiring colleague, Mike Ashton, who suffered life changing spinal injuries whilst on a bike ride in Greece in September 2019 but, somehow, has retained a strong sense of self, humanity and passion for life. And, wonderfully, is also himself cycling 2022 RideLondon. The SIA has been an important support for Mike in dealing with his injuries and re-adjusting to a very different physical lifestyle.
Please sponsor me, so that the SIA can continue and expand their life changing work.
